"I do not permit a woman to teach . . ." (1 Tim 2:11)
From Reaction to Relief
I Timothy 2:11 did not seem to be "my friend.'" I vacillated between jaded disinterest and extreme apprehension. Like Martin Luther who suggested the book of James was as useful in the fireplace, I wished to remove this sentence from Scripture, because this particular verse had been manipulated to insult me and keep me from working for the Lord! But today "we're friends."
I discovered at my first WOW! seminar that the grammar and cultural context were essential to clarifying the intentions of the author. With a serious commitment to the authority of God's Word, passion and integrity, Dr. Grace May brought the attendees (and me) to a solid understanding of the intricate instructions to Timothy and a deeper appreciation of God's wisdom. Her teaching was accompanied by a time of discussion and application facilitated by WOW! faculty. The knowledge and confidence in God's love and justice left me revived, relieved, restored and refreshed.
